Exchange of the respiratory gases in earthworm occurs through the body surface. The skin of the earthworm is thin, moist and highly vascular. It is kept moist by the moisture of the soil, the mucous secreted by the gland cells of the epidermis and the coelomic fluid oozing out of the dorsal pores. Oxygen from the air dissolves in these fluids and then diffuses into the blood through the thin skin
