Some of the important deficiency disease/disorder are night blindness, xeropthalamia, anaemia, goitre and PEM. The later protein energy malnutrition disorder are the most common in young children below 8 years. It is of two types, kwashiorkor and marasmus.
Kwashiorkor is observed in children of age group between 1-8 years and is caused by the deficiency of both carbohydrates and proteins, while marasmus is commonly seen in the children of age below two years and is caused by deficiency of proteins only
