(b) Based on the position of calyx, corolla and androcium, in respect of the ovary in thalamus, the flowers are described as (i) Hypogenous When gynoecium occupies the highest position, it is called superior ovary (ii) Perigynous It the gynoecium is situated in the centre and other parts of flower are located on the rim of thalamus almost at the same level, it is called half inferior ovary (iii) Epigynous ovary The margin of thalamus grows upward enclosing the ovary completely and getting fused with it, other parts of flower arises above the ovary.
