Answer Key / Explanation : (a) -

Let the total marks be

Passing marks=5% of                                                                                         …(i)

As he obtained 80 marks and fails by 70

∴ Passing marks=80+70=150                                                                                         …(ii)

From (i) and (ii), we have

∴ (Maximum marks, Passing marks)=(10000, 150)

Alternative Method (Using F-8(i)):

Maximum marks =

Passing marks=Marks obtained + Marks by which he failed=80+70=150
