Job Roles:
An automobile engineer generally oversees a manufacturing process.
It could be any part of the process, ranging from initial design to final production.
It depends on the engineer whether he/she has a specialty and can oversee a specific part of the process, or is qualified to handle the big picture, i.e., the whole process itself.
The job activities typically include:
Using computer-aided design tools to visualize the expected end product and its components.
Using data to analyze and improve the preexisting mechanical and electrical components of a product.
Building prototypes of features to test before expanding to an industry level product.
Taking care of mechanical and electrical failures in the prototype and supervising quality control.
To achieve the general goals of a typical automobile engineer, technical knowledge and experience is a necessity. The standard skillset of an automobile engineer is:
