Question 6
Try This (Text Book Page No. 5)
If a square of side $1 \mathrm{~cm}$ is cut out of the corner of a larger square with side $4 \mathrm{~cm}$ (See the figure). What will be the perimeter of the remaining shape?
Answer:
Perimeter of the shape $=4 \mathrm{~cm}+4 \mathrm{~cm}+4 \mathrm{~cm}+4 \mathrm{~cm}=16 \mathrm{~cm}$
Perimeter of the remaining shape
$\begin{aligned}
&=4 \mathrm{~cm}+4 \mathrm{~cm}+3 \mathrm{~cm}+1 \mathrm{~cm}+1 \mathrm{~cm}+3 \mathrm{~cm} \\
&=16 \mathrm{~cm}
\end{aligned}$
