Miscellaneous Practice Problems
Question $1 .$

Make a model of a fish using the given tetromino shapes

Complete the given rectangle using the given tetromino shapes.

Solution:

Question $2 .$
Complete the given rectangle using the given tetromino shapes.

Question 3.

Shade the figure completely, by using five Tetromino shapes only once.

Solution:

Question $4 .$
Using the given tetrominoes with numbers on it complete the $4 \times 4$ magic square?

Solution:

Question $5 .$
Find the shortest route to Vivekanandar Memorial Hall from the Mandapam using the given map.

Solution:
Possible routes from Mandapam to Vivekandar Memorial are
route 1:
(a) Mandapam $\rightarrow$ Pullivasal Island $\rightarrow$ Krusadai Island $\rightarrow$ Vivekanandar Memorial Hall.
Distance $=6 \mathrm{Km}+2 \mathrm{Km}+1.5 \mathrm{Km}=9.5 \mathrm{Km}$
route 2 :
(b) Mandapam $\rightarrow$ Krusadai Island $\rightarrow$ Vivekanandar Memorial Hall.
Distance $=7 \mathrm{Km}+1.5 \mathrm{Km}=8.5 \mathrm{Km}$
$8.5 \mathrm{~km}<9.5 \mathrm{~km}$
$\therefore$ Shortest route : Mandapam $\rightarrow$ Krusadai Island $\rightarrow$ Vivekanandar Memorial Hall.

Challenge Problems
Question 6 .

Fill in $4 \times 10$ rectangle completely, using all the five tetrominoes twice.
Solution:

(more possible ways are there)

Question $7 .$
Fill in $8 \times 5$ rectangle completely, using all the five tetrominoes twice.

Solution:

(more possible way are there)

Question $8 .$
Observe the picture and answer the following.
(i) Find all the possible routes from A to D.
(ii) Find the shortest distance between $\mathrm{E}$ and $\mathrm{C}$.
(iii) Find all the possible routes between $\mathrm{B}$ and $\mathrm{F}$ with distance. Mention the shortest route.

Solution:
(i) All possible routes from A to D are :
(a) $\mathrm{A} \rightarrow \mathrm{G} \rightarrow \mathrm{F} \rightarrow \mathrm{E} \rightarrow \mathrm{D}$
(b) $\mathrm{A} \rightarrow \mathrm{G} \rightarrow \mathrm{D}$
(c) $\mathrm{A} \rightarrow \mathrm{B} \rightarrow \mathrm{C} \rightarrow \mathrm{D}$
(d) $\mathrm{A} \rightarrow \mathrm{B} \rightarrow \mathrm{D}$
(ii) Distance between $\mathrm{E}$ and $\mathrm{C}$ are
(a) Route $1: \mathrm{E} \rightarrow \mathrm{D} \rightarrow \mathrm{C}$
Distance: $120 \mathrm{~m}+200 \mathrm{~m}=320 \mathrm{~m}$.
(b) Route $2: \mathrm{E} \rightarrow \mathrm{D} \rightarrow \mathrm{B} \rightarrow \mathrm{C}$
Distance $=120+100 \mathrm{~m}+120 \mathrm{~m}$
$=340 \mathrm{~m}$.
$\therefore$ Shortest distance is $320 \mathrm{~m}$.
(iii) All possible routes between B and F are :
(a) Route $1: \mathrm{B} \rightarrow \mathrm{A} \rightarrow \mathrm{G} \rightarrow \mathrm{F}$
Distance $=250 \mathrm{~m}+100 \mathrm{~m}+150 \mathrm{~m}=600 \mathrm{~m}$.
(b) Route $2: 2 \rightarrow \mathrm{D} \rightarrow \mathrm{E} \rightarrow \mathrm{F}$
Distance $=100 \mathrm{~m}+120 \mathrm{~m}+300 \mathrm{~m}$ $=520 \mathrm{~m}$.
(c) Route $3: \mathrm{B} \rightarrow \mathrm{D} \rightarrow \mathrm{G} \rightarrow \mathrm{F}$
Distance $=100 \mathrm{~m}+200 \mathrm{~m}+150 \mathrm{~m}$ $=450 \mathrm{~m}$.

(d) Route $4: \mathrm{B} \rightarrow \mathrm{C} \rightarrow \mathrm{D} \rightarrow \mathrm{E} \rightarrow \mathrm{F}$
Distance $=120 \mathrm{~m}+200 \mathrm{~m}+120 \mathrm{~m}+300 \mathrm{~m}$ $=740 \mathrm{~m}$.
We find that Route 3 is shortest. ie $\mathrm{B} \rightarrow \mathrm{D} \rightarrow \mathrm{G} \rightarrow \mathrm{F}$ is the shortest route.
