Solution:
Route 1: School $\rightarrow$ Swimming pool $\rightarrow$ canteen $\rightarrow$ playground
Distance $9 \mathrm{~km}+2 \mathrm{~km}+10 \mathrm{~km}=21 \mathrm{~km}$.
Route 2 : School $\rightarrow$ canteen $\rightarrow$ playground
Distance : $10 \mathrm{~km}+10 \mathrm{~km}=20 \mathrm{~km}$.
Route 3 : School $\rightarrow$ garden $\rightarrow$ playground
Distance : $2 \mathrm{~km}+20 \mathrm{~km}=22 \mathrm{~km}$.
Route 4 : School $\rightarrow$ garden $\rightarrow$ teashop $\rightarrow$ playground
Distance : $2 \mathrm{~km}+17 \mathrm{~km}+2 \mathrm{~km}=21 \mathrm{~km}$.
Route 5 : School $\rightarrow$ Park $\rightarrow$ teashop $\rightarrow$ playground
Distance : $12 \mathrm{~km}+12 \mathrm{~km}+2 \mathrm{~km}=24 \mathrm{~km}$.
$\therefore$ Route 2 is the shortest distance.
