Question 1 .
Find the value of $6+3+8$ and $3+6+8$
(i) Are the same?
(ii) Is there any other way of arranging these three numbers?
Solution:
$6+3+8=3+6+8=17$
(i) Yes, $6+3+8=3+6+8=17$, Both are same
(ii) Yes, we can arrange these numbers as
$3+8+6=8+6+3=8+3+6=6+8+3$
Question 2 .
Find the value of $5 \times 2 \times 6$ and $2 \times 5 \times 6$
(i) Are the same?
(ii) Is there any other way of arranging these three numbers?
Solution:
$5 \times 2 \times 6=2 \times 5 \times 6=60$
(i) Yes, they are the same
(ii) They can be arranged as
$2 \times 6 \times 5=6 \times 5 \times 2=5 \times 6 \times 2=6 \times 2 \times 5$.
What is the value of $(15-8)-6 ?$ Is it the same as $15-(8-6) ?$ Why?
(15 $5 \times 8)-6=7-6=1$
Question 3 .
Is $7-5$ the same as $5-7 ?$ Why?
Solution:
$7-5 \neq 5-7$.
Because subtraction is not commutative $[\because 7-5=2 ; 5-7=-2]$
Question $4 .$
What is the value of $(15-8)-6 ?$ Is it the same as $15-(8-6) ?$ Why?
Solution:
$\begin{aligned}
&(15-8)-6=7-6=1 \\
&(15-8)-6=1
\end{aligned}$
It is not same as $15-(8-6)$.
$15-(8-6)=15-2=13$
$(15-8)-6 \neq 15-(8-6)$
